Mt Rose is the closest real mountain to Reno, and it has the highest base elevation at Lake Tahoe. That combination makes it our most flexible place to ski. You can decide on Friday night and be on snow with a certified coach on Saturday morning.

What a Mountain Mentorship day is
You ski the day with a PSIA or AASI certified coach as your host and mentor. You meet in the morning, ride together from the first lift, and the coaching happens while you ski. Feedback comes on the chair, at the top of a pitch, or over lunch, rather than standing around in a flat teaching area.
The method is guided discovery. Your coach gives you one or two things to feel rather than a list of twelve corrections, then puts you on terrain where the difference is obvious. Most people find it sticks better than being talked at.

If you searched for ski lessons at Mt Rose, you have two options and they are not the same product.
Mt Rose’s own ski school sells formal lessons, private and group. Formal instruction inside a resort is generally the ski school’s exclusive right, so a lesson in the strict sense comes from them. First-timers should book there.
A Mountain Mentorship day with us is a full day skiing with a PSIA or AASI certified coach as your host, with continuous intercom feedback, CARV data and video analysis. It is not a resort lesson and we do not call it one. It is also the only coached day at Mt Rose you can book instantly online and ski the next morning.
That last part is the real reason people pick Mt Rose. Twenty-five minutes from Reno, highest base elevation at Tahoe, and bookable on a Friday night for a Saturday. If you have a narrow window, this is the mountain that fits it.

The day starts at $600, and that one price covers up to three people. A second and third guest cost nothing extra, so three of you works out at $200 each. A fourth guest is $400, making a group of four $1,000, or $250 each.

Frequently asked questions
How do you give feedback during the day?
Coach and guest are on intercom, so feedback is instant and continuous instead of saved up for the bottom of the run. You can ask a question mid-turn and your coach can answer it there. We also use CARV to measure what your skis are actually doing, which means edge angle, pressure and balance, so the coaching is checked against data rather than impressions.
Do you do video analysis?
Yes, with every guest, and it goes well beyond filming a few turns. Your coach shoots footage through the day and then works through it with you, showing what your body is actually doing versus what it feels like. You keep the video afterwards. All of this is included rather than sold as an add-on.
Can I really book same week?
Yes. Mt Rose is our instant-booking mountain, so if a coach shows as available on the calendar, that date is yours as soon as you pay. The other mountains need a confirmation step first.
Is this a ski lesson?
It’s a guided day with a certified coach, which is a slightly different thing. You’ll get coaching and feedback throughout, but formal instruction at Mt Rose is booked through the resort’s ski school. Our private lessons run at Sugar Bowl.
What ability do I need?
Comfortable linking turns on a green or easy blue is a good starting point, since we’ll be skiing real terrain rather than a beginner area. Complete first-timers are better served at Sugar Bowl, where we can teach a proper lesson.
Snowboarding too?
Yes. Our coaches are certified in both, and mixed groups are welcome.
What about lift tickets?
Not included. Buy them from Mt Rose directly, ideally in advance on a weekend.
What if it’s storming?
We ski most conditions, and storm days are often the best ones. If the mountain closes or things turn genuinely unsafe, we’ll reschedule you.
