Ski Coaching at Palisades Tahoe
Palisades Tahoe is the most intimidating mountain in the basin, and the most rewarding once you know where to point yourself. It is huge, the terrain gets serious fast, and a good day here depends almost entirely on knowing which side of the mountain is working.
That’s the whole argument for skiing it with a coach. Our Mountain Mentorship days at Palisades put you with a certified coach who knows the place, so you spend the day skiing good snow instead of hunting for it.
What a Mountain Mentorship day is
A full day on snow with a PSIA or AASI certified coach as your host and mentor. You ski together from the first lift, and the coaching happens as you go, on the chair and between runs, rather than standing in one spot drilling.
The approach is guided discovery. You get one or two ideas at a time and terrain chosen to make the difference obvious, which is how a physical skill actually sinks in.

If you searched for ski lessons at Palisades Tahoe, there are two genuinely different things you could book, and the difference matters more here than at most mountains.
Palisades Tahoe’s own ski school sells formal lessons for every level. Formal instruction inside a resort is generally the ski school’s exclusive right, so if a lesson in the strict sense is what you want, that is where it comes from. A complete first-timer should go there, and we will say so rather than take the booking.
A Mountain Mentorship day with us is not a resort lesson and we do not present it as one. You ski the day with a PSIA or AASI certified coach as your host, with continuous intercom feedback, CARV data and video analysis you keep. For anyone past the beginner stage, it is usually the better day.
Palisades in particular rewards the second option. This is a mountain where knowing which aspect held overnight, and which lift to skip at ten in the morning, changes the day more than any single technical correction does. A first-timer needs instruction. An intermediate at Palisades mostly needs someone who knows the place.

The day starts at $600, and that one price covers up to three people. A second and third guest cost nothing extra, so three of you comes to $200 each. A fourth guest is $400, making a group of four $1,000, or $250 each.

Lift tickets and rentals are separate and booked through Palisades Tahoe.
How booking works here
Palisades days are booked by request rather than instant checkout. You pick a date, we hold it, and your coach confirms. Once they do, we email you a payment link. If they can’t make the date, nothing is charged and we’ll suggest alternatives.

Frequently asked questions
How do you give feedback during the day?
Coach and guest are on intercom, so feedback is instant and continuous instead of saved up for the bottom of the run. You can ask a question mid-turn and your coach can answer it there. We also use CARV to measure what your skis are actually doing, which means edge angle, pressure and balance, so the coaching is checked against data rather than impressions.
Do you do video analysis?
Yes, with every guest, and it goes well beyond filming a few turns. Your coach shoots footage through the day and then works through it with you, showing what your body is actually doing versus what it feels like. You keep the video afterwards. All of this is included rather than sold as an add-on.
How far ahead should I request?
A few days is usually enough, though weekends and holidays go quickly. Your date is held while your coach confirms, so nobody else can take it in the meantime.
Is this a ski lesson?
It’s a guided day with a certified coach. You’ll get coaching and feedback all day, but formal instruction at Palisades is booked through the resort’s ski school. Our private lessons run at Sugar Bowl.
Do I need to be an expert?
No, but you should be comfortable linking turns on blue terrain. Palisades has plenty of approachable skiing, and your coach will match the day to your group.
Can we do more than one day?
Yes, and it’s a good idea here. Two days lets you cover both mountains properly.
Snowboarders welcome?
Yes. Our coaches hold AASI certifications alongside PSIA alpine.
What if the weather closes the upper mountain?
It happens here more than most places. Your coach will work the terrain that’s open, and if the day is genuinely unskiable we’ll reschedule you.
